Locked out of a Google Pixel

A Pixel has no manufacturer account on top of Google's, so there is exactly one thing to recover: your Google Account. That makes it the cleanest brand to be locked out of, and the whole job is account recovery.

There is no remote screen unlock for Pixel. Clearing a forgotten lock erases the phone.

One account, one blocker

There is no Pixel Account. Google's own Factory Reset Protection is the only thing that will stop you after a reset, and it asks for a Google Account that was signed in before.

So do not start by looking for Pixel-specific tools. Start by confirming you can sign in to your Google Account somewhere else.

The route

From a computer, sign in to your Google Account. Reset the password now if you need to.
Check Google One for a device backup and confirm its date, and check Google Photos for your pictures.
Use Find Hub — Google's device finder — to erase the phone remotely, or use the hardware recovery menu if it is offline.
At setup, sign in with that same Google Account and restore the backup.

If you changed the Google Account password very recently, the setup screen may refuse it for a while. That delay is deliberate anti-theft behaviour. Wait and try again.

Pixel support windows

Pixel 8 and newer carry seven years of OS and security updates from launch, which is the longest commitment in Android. Pixel 6 and 7 have shorter windows.

If you are deciding whether an older Pixel is worth recovering, check whether it still receives security updates. A phone that no longer gets them should not be your banking device.

Setup asks for a Google Account that is not yours.
The phone is enrolled by an employer or school.
