5 Tips For Using Multiple Browser Profiles In Any Browser
Have you ever wanted to save multiple browser settings, extensions, and other customizations across browsers? If so, you’re in luck! Browser extensions and bookmarklets can help you achieve this goal by enabling you to transfer data between your different browsers. Here are 5 tips for using multiple browser profiles in any browser.
Add a new Profile
Open your browser, and click on Tools > Create Profile. You’ll be prompted to name your profile (if you like), then choose where to save it. Make sure it is saved on your Desktop for easy access later. This will create a new folder on your desktop called Profiles that contains all of your profiles. To open a new profile, just double-click on its icon in that folder. Then, close all open windows except for one that needs testing. Now right-click on an empty spot in your browser window and select Load profile from the dropdown menu.
Select whichever profile you want to load, then press OK or press Enter when asked if you want to switch profiles now. That’s it! Your current page should refresh with whatever tabs were opened in that particular profile last time it was used; any changes made since then will be reflected as well.
Google Chrome
If you’re on a shared computer, or your primary browser is Chrome and you don’t want to mix your business-related sites with your personal ones, create a work profile in Chrome. Click on Window (the icon in upper left corner) > New Incognito Window. A new window will appear titled Incognito Window. You can now go about your business without leaving behind any personal data for others to find! When you’re done, close out of all open windows by clicking File > Close Tab Group. Then click File > Exit to close out of Chrome entirely.
It should be noted that creating an incognito tab does not delete your browsing history; it only keeps it from being saved when you exit out of all tabs in that session. So if someone else uses your computer after you do, they could still see what pages were visited during that time period. If you’re really concerned about privacy, consider using a different browser for your work profile.
To do so, simply download and install a different browser to use exclusively for work. The browser will then create its own profile. When you log into Chrome with your Google account in that new browser, you’ll have access to both your personal and work profiles. It might be a little bit extra work at first, but it’s worth protecting your privacy! It’s also possible to use two different browsers on one computer—one for each profile.
If you plan to use both browsers at once, be sure to change your homepage settings. To do so, click on Settings > On Startup and select Open A Specific Page or Set of Pages. Enter your preferred start page into that box. Also in Settings, go to Basics > Show Home Button and uncheck Use The New Tab Page as Homepage. When you’re done, close out of all open windows by clicking File > Close Tab Group.
Mozilla Firefox
This browser allows you to create and use different profiles for different tasks. Each profile you create will appear as a separate icon in your list of browsers, so that you can easily switch between them. This is especially useful if you have multiple email accounts or several Google calendars—just switch to that account/calendar by selecting it from Firefox’s top-left corner drop-down menu (its icon looks like a stack of papers). You can also launch an extra profile by clicking on its icon.
On Windows, you can change your default Firefox profile by opening Control Panel and searching for Firefox. Double-click on your Firefox listing in Control Panel and select a new profile name from the Profile drop-down menu. You can also create a new profile by clicking on Create Profile… in Control Panel. On Mac, you can change your default Firefox profile by opening up System Preferences and clicking on the General tab. Click on Set Default Programs, then click Browse to find your Firefox program file (it’s usually located at /Applications/Firefox.app).
Select it and click Open to set it as your default browser; now when you launch Firefox it will open with whatever profile is selected in System Preferences. To create a new profile, simply quit out of Firefox and then relaunch it from your Applications folder. It’ll ask if you want to create a new profile; select Yes, then follow its prompts for setting up a new user name, password, etc.
Opera
One of the most well-known browsers, Opera has some features that allow it to stand out. The Do Not Track functionality is a standard that is supported by many other browsers, but in Opera it’s turned on by default and allows users to opt out of online tracking with just one click. Another feature that makes Opera unique is its customizability. Users can download speed dial extensions to replace their homepage, add pop-up blockers, or adjust their ad blocking capabilities.
The app can be used in so many ways that it’s a good choice for those who are just beginning to navigate their way around a browser. It’s light, fast, and easy to use. New users will appreciate not having to change all of their settings when they install it; instead, they can customize their profiles as they grow more comfortable with how everything works. New features are often implemented, too— for example, Opera recently added an ad blocker to its mobile apps. This is great news for people on-the-go who don’t want to have to deal with intrusive ads while browsing online.
Cent Browser
This browser is designed to fit on top of your existing browser, which means you can still continue using your regular favorites like Chrome or Safari while enjoying all of Cent’s super-smart features. Cent gives you infinite tabs, private browsing and enhanced security all in one easy-to-use interface—now that’s smart!
No more flipping back and forth between windows. Plus, with built-in parental controls, you can set up profiles for each member of your family with their own bookmarks, preferences and settings – including what sites they have access to! And if you find yourself sharing a computer with someone who might want access to certain sites while keeping others private, use Cent Browser’s secure virtual machine feature so no one else has access to any information stored in your browser history.
Internet Explorer
The best way to manage your profiles is using Internet Explorer. When you click on Tools > Manage Add-ons, you can start a new profile and easily delete an old one. With each tab being its own profile, it’s easy to switch back and forth between accounts with just a click of a button. As mentioned above, using an add-on such as Ghostery will allow you to not only view multiple account information at once but also block certain sites if necessary.
Although Chrome is a good browser to use when managing multiple accounts, Firefox is much more suited for switching between several open profiles quickly. When you hit Ctrl+N, you’ll be taken to a new browser window that can be set up as its own profile. If you want to switch back and forth quickly between accounts, click Ctrl+Shift+T. This will open up your list of profiles for quick access.
When you have several browser windows open, it can be hard to tell which window is which. If you would like a quick way to distinguish between your accounts, add an image to your Firefox toolbar and make sure it is different for each profile. This is a great way to stay organized so that you don’t get lost when switching back and forth between tabs.
