If the device is not yours—or you cannot prove authorization—stop. Return it to the owner, organization, carrier, or appropriate lost-property channel.

  • Understand that Activation Lock remains after erase
  • Use Apple's current on-device or recovery-mode instructions
  • Escalate to Apple with proof of purchase if needed
