T-Mobile Unlock Policy (2026 Requirements)
T-Mobile's unlocking rules differ between postpaid and prepaid accounts. Devices must not be blocked (e.g., lost/stolen) and the account must be in good standing.
| Account Type | Time/Usage Requirement | Financial Status |
|---|---|---|
| Postpaid | 40 Days Active Service | Fully Paid Off / Installment Complete |
| Prepaid | 365 Days Active OR $100+ Refills | Account Active |
| Military Deployment | Immediate exception available | Contact T-Force with orders |
Steps to Unlock T-Mobile Devices
T-Mobile has largely moved away from unlock codes in favor of app-based or server-side unlocks.
- Android Devices: Open the "Device Unlock" app (if pre-installed on older devices) OR go to
Settings > Connections > More Connection Settings > Network Unlock. Tap "Permanent Unlock". - Apple Devices: T-Mobile submits an OTA unlock to Apple. Wait 48 hours, then insert a non-T-Mobile SIM. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to pull the updated policy.
- T-Force Support: If eligible but the app fails, contact T-Mobile Support via X (formerly Twitter) @TMobileHelp or dial 611.
