You are locked out. Is any backup still possible?
Sometimes. It depends on whether the cloud was already doing the work.
If the phone is locked, you generally cannot start a new local backup. You can still check what already exists.
On a computer you used with the phone, look for Finder / iTunes backups and their dates. On iCloud.com, look at Photos, Notes, and device backups. On Google, look at photos.google.com and the Android backup associated with the Gmail.
WhatsApp: if they never enabled a Google Drive or iCloud chat backup, those messages are on the handset. A reset will not negotiate.
Authenticator apps: if you still have a laptop session or printed backup codes, use them before you wipe. If you do not, that is a per-service recovery, not a phone trick.
When you know what you have, the erase is less frightening. When you do not, it is still sometimes the only official door.
