US carrier unlocks: who actually says yes
Most postpaid unlocks are free once you have paid your bill. Prepaid and MVNOs have their own clocks.
A network unlock lets a paid-off, legitimate phone take a SIM from another carrier. It does not remove a passcode, iCloud, or FRP.
Verizon generally unlocks after about 60 days on devices they sold, if the account is in good standing. AT&T and T-Mobile want the device paid off and a stretch of on-time service — often 60 days, sometimes more on installment.
Prepaid brands (Cricket, Metro, Boost, Mint, and the rest) publish their own day counts. If you are still in the window, they will say no, and they are allowed to.
Bring the IMEI, the account holder’s ID, and a bill. The unlock is usually over the air. If a code is involved, the carrier sends it — not a third-party “I can generate NCK” page.
Blacklisted or reported lost/stolen devices will not be unlocked. That is the point of the list.
